The way I made friends in a new home, new environment was to go out and be unafraid of trying new things. All I wanted to do was to play. Badminton was something that came naturally, and then eventually I entered the territory of soccer. I was captain of my soccer team in elementary school, though I have gotten much worse at both since then. I would like to be good at them again, and the only known way is showing up and playing badly until you are not bad anymore. So every Thursday I am hosting an event. We play some soccer/badminton, then we sit down and do graph theory problems, and if something interesting comes out of it we write it up and try to publish. There is no skill pre-requisite, you do not need to be good at soccer, and you do not need to have taken a graph theory course. If anyone at UNC is interested in doing this in the fall, reach out to me.
